The Sable Family – Sneak Peek

I totally believe that these little post-session peeks are necessary for me AND my clients’ sanity. I love seeing what ends up coming out of the camera, and so do they. I take the Sables’ family portraits every year, partially because Melissa is my BFF and she loves me AND my work.

One of the biggest benefits of taking pictures of people you already know is that they are up for new ideas and locations. This awesome spot was just waiting for me and this family. LOVE it.

Bauer’s Newborn Session – Sneak Peek

While Jyl Torrens keeps Colusa County children dancing and developing, she has also been growing something special of her own. Jyl and her husband Matt welcomed Bauer into the world last week, and he is one of the most alert newborns I have ever seen! Most of our session, Bauer was more interested in checking out what was going on around him than sleeping. Luckily, he did finally settle down for a few sleepy shots. Thank you, Jyl and Matt, for the opportunity to capture some of Bauer’s first moments. He is certainly a sweetheart.

The Lorenzen Kids – Holiday Session – Williams, California

Here’s a quick look into how family sessions are going this season. I decided I would only do limited sessions this year due to my heavy wedding season. Add that to the fact that it’s baby Zeke’s first year… I’m a pretty busy mommy. I would like to take this opportunity to remind future (and return) clients that you should definitely attempt to book next year’s holiday portraits as early as possible. Making plans for family photo sessions could even be considered as early as June and July. Photo schedules fill up fast – don’t miss out on an opportunity to book!

Melissa’s Maternity Session – Carmichael, California

I was convinced that Melissa and Jonathan were expecting a little girl, and so were many of their friends and family. Melissa, however, thought all along that it felt like a boy. Turns out mommy knows best – Logan James was born August 21st, less than two weeks after this session took place.

This post is a good example of how sessions go when toddlers are involved – they have a very limited attention span and pictures go according to their schedule, not ours. Little Lance was a SUPER cutie:

But I am sure that many parents can relate to THIS, especially on picture day!

So we let Lance relax and do his own thing for a while…

Lance soon decided that pictures might not be SO bad:

And then our session completely changed direction with the appearance of an unexpected guest. With the introduction of this little guy, Lance became instantly animated:

Summer Fun Contest Winner – Kim Walls (and family!)

Last month, I advertised my Summer Fun Contest on my blog and on Facebook. Part of my reasoning behind having such a contest is due to the fact that August is generally a slow month for my business. I wanted to get out and capture some images of people who were deserving of an amazing session. The other reason behind holding a contest is that I wanted to see what explanations my fans could come up with for needing (or wanting) such a session. I set up a panel of judges, made my announcements, and waited for the entries to roll in!

I want everyone to know how much I (and my judges) enjoyed reading all of the responses. Our original winner was definitely in need – a mother of three boys and two of them had passed away at a young age. However, because of the most recent son’s death, she had to forfeit her session. My judges chose Kimberly Walls as a runner-up in the case that the original winner could not participate in the session. Please note that in this case, the entries were submitted to my panel of judges anonymously, so that there was no chance of bias on their parts.

Here is the winning entry from Kim:
“I think I deserve a session because I deeply love and adore my family and we haven’t gotten family portraits since all the kids have become adults and added a sister-in-law and a brother-in-law. My family is wonderful and close and I’d love to document us as we are…my s-i-l is 7 mo. prego so I’d like them pre babies. My parents just celebrated 24 years and there is lots of love… Plus, my family loved and adored your photos from my wedding, I know you can capture us the way you captured mine and Russ’s special bond.”

I posted a couple shots from Kim’s wedding last year in Maui – wasn’t she a gorgeous bride?! You can see the full post from her wedding here. Kim, thank you for entering the contest. I hope that I have met – and possibly even surpassed – your expectations when it comes to your family session.

I loved having the opportunity to capture a large family photo. Such a good-looking family too!

It was important to Kim that we get some good shots of all of the siblings together, and I think we accomplished that!
