This week, my daughter turned six. She had a wonderful birthday, and it reminded me about the difference between her childhood and mine. Although I feel that I was very happy growing up, Tariah’s father and I have definitely been able to provide more for her (and little sister Thayana) than our parents were able to for us. I am certainly thankful for that fact.

Welcome to being six, baby girl. I hope every year is better than the last.

As if Starbucks doesn’t have a strong enough hold on our pocketbooks when it comes to our daily caffeine fix, they also have a knack for coming up with other tasty treats to tempt us away from a healthy lifestyle. I rate their Valentine’s Day cupcakes right up there with the Cranberry Bliss Bars in winter time and Carmelita Bars in the summer. (For those of you who have no idea what I am referring to, YES – I realize I spend WAAAAAAY too much time at Starbucks. It is unhealthy, I understand.)

Lucky me, I room with two “Starbuckians”, as I like to call them. And wouldn’t you know that one of them brought home a whole container FULL of these tasty cupcakes one evening! I like to call these babies Starbuck’s version of a Hostess cupcake on steroids. Now go get one!

iPhone for Kindergarteners?

One thing I love about my cell phone is that it takes decent pictures. This is helpful when I don’t want to carry around my bulky digital SLR. Like when I am meeting the girls and their father at a very packed coffee shop on a Saturday morning.

I have a feeling that my eldest daughter will be much like her father – very technologically literate. This bothers me only because I don’t want to see her hooked on video games. 🙂

I have to apologize to the people following this blog. I haven’t had a lot of new material lately, partially due to the weather. Of course, we really do need the rain, but I want to get out so badly and shoot! Everything is beginning to bloom already – California is SO beautiful. Hopefully I will post some evidence of this soon.

Afternoon fun

Today I went to lunch with the kiddos and my mom. Rule number one when attempting to crank out at least one photo per day: Get out of the house! Anyone want to see a picture of my yummy veggie sandwich from The Brick House in Marysville? I LOVE veggies!

This is probably the only pro photographer’s blog you will see that will talk about the following sensitive subject – the potty in the new CalTrans building. I have to say that I was blown away, and that’s why I chose to post such awesome pictures of the latrine. Apparently, CalTrans is attempting to do their part in conserving water… In the toilet. Up for number one, down for number two, and a new anti-bacterial handle:

(I have to say that the only part of my anatomy that ever touches the handle in a public restroom is the bottom of my shoe.) And if you didn’t quite grasp the concept the first time around, here is a shot of the overly-informative (yet still extremely proper) sign with directions on the use of said handle:

So if this wasn’t one of the most enlightening blog entries that you have ever read on a photographer’s website, you will certainly have to direct me to some so I can edu-ma-cate myself too. 🙂

Incredible

Welcome to the noisiest, most crowded kid (and adult)-friendly environment in the Sacramento area. At the end of the day, though, I would get back on this ride over and over again just to be able to take pictures like this. So fun!

I have noticed that a lot of the photos I have been posting lately have been void of bright, vibrant colors. I am planning on posting some more colorful shots shortly, even if it means digging into the vault. Stay tuned. 🙂

Read it, Mom

You would think that being a photographer and having two beautiful children would mean that I have hordes and hordes of awesome pictures of them. Yeah, I thought it would be that way too. Unfortunately, when your favorite hobby is also your job, you end up doing it less and less in your spare time. 🙂 I sometimes am envious of my clients – I spend so much more time capturing great images of their children than of my own. And when I do bring out my camera, my girls don’t usually want to be the subjects. Can you tell?

Waterfalls

Here is my contribution to my Photo A Day endeavor. I added a couple extra to make up for the fact that I am 34 days behind. 🙂 I have to say that shooting scenery isn’t exactly my thing, but I would LOVE to bring a model or a couple back to this spot and give it the attention it deserves!

I would also like to mention that I used samples from the Totally Rad Actions demo that I downloaded from the website. I love these actions, and I want both packs as SOON as possible!
